Victoria K Nelson
Professional Artist

All things creative has been a common theme in the life of Victoria Nelson, Professional Artist. From childhood days of building model airplanes to experimenting with a chemistry set, to her corporate career which frequently involved starting new projects and organizations.

Beginning as self-taught painting flowers in water colors when in her teens she then took initial instruction in college. After college, a corporate career beckoned and art creation went dormant. In 2010, as her corporate life began to lose its inspiration, Nelson began taking serious art instruction. "Art instruction filled the void and led me to move on to a life where I could paint, draw, experiment and grow as an artist full time - or whenever I felt like it" said Victoria Nelson.

"Most of my inspiration comes from flowers - part of being the daughter of a florist, and the islands."
For over 30 years, she and her husband, Steve (a devoted, hard-working supporter of the arts community) split their time between their home in Florida, and St. Croix.

The inspiration and beauty of the Crucian life and its people is evident in her work. Other inspirations
have been found in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, especially the Arizona Biltmore Hotel and Resort. The complexity and geometry of her work is a confluence of a designer’s eye and an engineer's eye. However, "Never stop learning" is how she describes her style approach. “Everything from my backyard to travels from South East Asia to the Mediterranean have all influenced my ever-evolving portfolio," said Nelson.

Nelson's work is shown in the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts on St. Croix, and the Hyder Gallery for Fine Arts in Lake Mary, Florida, and featured at a juried show in the Florida Hospital Art of Healing Gallery as well as several Historic Sanford Welcome Center Art Walk juried exhibitions. Her work is regularly included in charitable fund-raising auctions. Her works are in private collections in Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Canada, Iceland and Denmark.

The title is usually associated with a cocktail made with Cruzan rum, an important export from St. Croix, USVI. I couldnt resist mixing up some of the hallmarks of the island to create this type of Cruzan Confusion. Incorporated elements include: The yellow Ginger Thomas (the territorys official flower), an upside down sugar mill, the Millenium Monument at Point Udall (most easterly point in the United States), the famous sunset green flash and on a cockeyed Caribbean horizon, all over seen by a bottle of Cruzan Rum. No rum was consumed during the creation of this piece.
